The minister of roads and high ways, Kwasi Amoako Atta has said the famous Bolga-Bawku- Pulmakon road was awarded under some mysterious circumstances.
The minister said the contract didn’t go through the necessary procurement process.” I should say that everything about the procurement process was wrong”
The about 103km road was awarded to the Brazilian construction company, Quelro Galvao in December 2016 at a construct sum of about Gh¢613m. The contract was halted upon assumption of office by his Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo for value for money auditing.
After continues complains and attempted demonstrations by citizens of the Upper East Region, the President during his two-day working visit of the region, promised to complete the project by the end of 2020.
The roads minister disclosed that a mandatory letter has been released by the finance minister to access a loan facility of £128m from IBIC Standard bank of the United Kingdom of which an initial £62m will be released to the contractor to return to the site to continue with the construction of the road.
The minister also assured the public that all challenges that faced the project have been sorted out and that the contract will not halt again.
Mr. Kwasi Amoako Atta assured the country that all the 78000km roads in the country will receive attention by the end of the tenure of the NPP government.
