NPP beat NDC to lift A1 @ 10 Anniversary Gala in UER

The New Patriotic Party in the Upper East Region defeated their rivals, the National Democratic Congress 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw in the final of A1 @ 10 Anniversary Gala in Bolgatanga the regional capital.

The two Political parties fought hard not in elections at the polls but on a football gala finals. NDC qualified to the quarter finals without kicking a ball because their opponent in the first match did not show up for the match. So they met Ghana Health Service and the won on penalties 5-4 after a goalless draw. They pick standby, which saw them straight to the finals.

Whiles their rivals, the ruling New Patriotic Party beat GNAT in their first and met GRA and they won to the semi final, where they balloted to face MTN, but MTN withdrew giving them the chance to face NDC. The host, A1 Radio dream of host and win was cut short by MTN when they lost 5-0, the highest score line in the gala.


In all 12 teams participated namely; Media XI, Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN), Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Driver Vehicle and License Authority (DVLA), Asante Boys, Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Ghana Health Service (GHS), A1 Radio, New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC).


The Chief Executive Officer of A1 Radio, Madam Regina Kparib expresses her heartfelt gratitude to the people of the region for choosing to listen to the station since its inception. She added that, the anniversary is dedicated to her late husband, the late Peter Kparib.

The Upper East Regional Communication Director of the governing New Patriotic Party, Mr. Issah Sanusi thanked A1 Radio for the invitation and said, it is a signal to the people of Upper East, NPP is not for a joke anything that we are in to it we are serious, for that matter we have not taking this thing lightly at all that is why we prepare ourselves mentally and tactically we are able to carry the day.


We are told that, elections are won at the polling stations and football is won in the field. He added that, being political opponents does not mean we are enemies.


“We thanked A1 Radio for the invitation it is a signal to the people of Upper East, NPP is not for a joke anything that we are in to we are serious, for that matter we have not taking this thing lightly at all that is why we prepare ourselves mentally and tactically and we are able to carry the day.

A communication Member of the National Democratic Congress the Upper East Region, Mr. Jonathan Abdullah in an interview with word sports said, they registered to be part of the gala hoping that, they were going to win, because everybody knows that, they are champions in the Upper East Region. We will prepare to next time and beat the New Patriotic Party, but added that, they are still in their agenda 15-15 for 2020 election in the Upper East Region.
