The Upper East Regional department of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company of Ghana (NeDCo) has arranged 9 persons before court for prosecution for stealing power worth Gh¢15,271.21.
The suspects who owe various sums from Gh¢486.89 and Gh¢2631.81 have been arranged to appear in court after they failed to pay the monies charged them by NEdCO after they were caught stealing power at various locations of the region.
Meanwhile the district court has issued an arrest warrant for the arrest of one Sylvester Abugre after he failed to appear in court on Thursday, 15th August.
Four others were also fined Gh¢100.00 each after they made full payment of the amount charged them.
Two others also made part payment and were granted bail of Gh¢10,000.00 and Gh¢2000,000.00 respectively with two sureties each and to reappear on Thursday 21st August .
The Acting Area Manager of NEdCO Mr. Abubakar Musah said the activities of power theft by individuals in the region is affecting the financial capacity of the company .
Mr. Musah said the exercise to clamp down illegal connection will continue unabated to bring culprits to book and to serve as a deterrent to others.
