Central region has won the 31st Edition of the Second Cycle Inter Regional Sports Festival for the second time after beating the other nine regions that took part in the competition which was hosted in the Upper East Region.
Team Central picked five trophies to place first in the medal table at the end of the completion. Central Region hosted the last edition in 2017 and won it.
The 31st edition of the Second Cycle Inter Regional Sport Festival was held in the Upper East Regional Capital, Bolgatanga with all ten regions participating.
The host region, team Upper East could not win the title as they were beaten by team Ashanti and Central which placed second and first respectively.
This year, Accra Brewery Limited (ABL), manufacturers of Beta Malt, partnered the Ghana Education Service (GES) to organise the competition known as “Beta Malt Interco”.
They crowned the ultimate champions from the various disciplines in the 8 day National Second Cycle Sports Festival held at Bolgatanga Senior High School in Bolgatanga.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the head of Marketing of Accra Brewery Limited, producers of Beta Malt, Ms Ewurafua Addo-Atuah said physical education and sports remains important disciplines that provide holistic intervention to developing the mental and physical aspects of the body of young people .

The Brands Manager of Beta Malt, Mrs Portia Offei Asare, urged the athletes to strive for success with Beta Malt as their beverage companion, on their way up to becoming a new generation of athletic ambassadors for the country.
The Overall best male athlete Foster Ametsi of Ashanti region and female athlete Grace Obour of Ashanti region received tertiary scholarship from Beta Malt worth GHS 30,000.
Below are the overall outcome of the sports festival;
Central Region – 50 points – 1st
Ashanti Region – 55 points – 2nd
Upper East Region – 69 points – 3rd
Eastern Region – 99 points – 4th
Greater Accra – 116 points – 5th
Volta Region – 123 points – 6th
Brong Ahafo Region – 130 points – 7th
Northern Region – 131points – 8th
Upper West Region – 134 points – 9th
Western Region – 151 points – 10th
The 32nd edition will be in 2021 in the Western Region.
